In a thought-provoking perspective on health and human consciousness, spiritual physician and author Dr. Baba Steve Bedi has described the hidden illness he calls the “pathology of conditioning.” According to Dr. Bedi, when humans live in a constant state of unawareness—disconnected from nature and inner consciousness—they unknowingly set off a chain of biological and psychological destruction.
He explains that this form of conditioned unconsciousness seeps deeply into the body’s cellular system. “It’s like a silent self-suicidal cancer,” he says. “When we live against the laws of nature, our cells lose the consciousness that protects them.” The result, he warns, is the rise of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disorders, cancer, diabetes, obesity, and mental illnesses.
Dr. Bedi further argues that modern medical systems, despite their scientific advancement, are themselves trapped in this same unconsciousness. “Doctors live and practice medicine mechanically, without understanding the spiritual dimension of healing,” he writes. “They are asleep—and keeping their patients asleep.”
He connects the idea of personal pathology to social health as well. The “disease of the nation,” he says, reflects the “character of its people.” When systems of governance—executive, administrative, judicial, and law enforcement—lose integrity, the result is societal illness marked by selfishness, corruption, and moral decay.
In Dr. Bedi’s words, “Pathology is not just about physical disease; it’s about the corruption of truth, honesty, and synergy in the human spirit.”
