Radical Reform Urged for America’s Medicare System

Calls for the radical transformation of the Medicare system in the United States have intensified, as concerns grow about its long-term sustainability and the quality of care provided to millions of Americans. Originally created in 1965 under President Lyndon B. Johnson, Medicare now serves over 60 million citizens and costs the government more than $700 billion annually.

Dr. Baba Steve Bedi, a U.S.-trained urologist and advocate for holistic healing, argues that Medicare has deviated from its original mission — providing care with dignity, compassion, and respect for human life. “The system has turned into a money-making machine, driven more by profits than patient outcomes,” he stated.

Citing unnecessary surgeries and invasive procedures, Dr. Bedi highlights how robotic prostatectomies and radiation therapies are often pushed on patients, especially those diagnosed with prostate cancer. According to 2019 data, Medicare spends over $4 billion annually on prostate-related procedures alone.

Dr. Bedi warns that these medical interventions are often based on “conditioned unconsciousness” — a term he uses to describe the blind trust in technology and the system, without understanding its impact on long-term well-being.

He advocates for a conscious, preventive, and lifestyle-oriented approach to healing, especially for age-related illnesses. “It’s time to realign the healthcare system with the values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” he emphasized.
